What a wonderful first week of school! There is an excitement about learning that is evident in each classroom. Supportive classroom communities are being developed and friendships are forming as students learn and play together. We are all looking forward to a productive school year filled with new learning experiences.
Special thanks to the PTO who helped us welcome our new kindergarten students and families. As they headed to their classrooms, it was evident that the students were so excited about beginning their school experience. Throughout the day, they explored the building, met many members of the staff, and began learning classroom routines. A particular highlight was the opportunity to eat lunch in the cafeteria.
We have begun the process of having children play outside prior to the beginning of school. To ensure student safety, please do not bring students prior to 8:15 when supervision begins. Kindergarten students however, will line up in the front door of the building for the remainder of this week and all of next week as they learn the arrival process. We ask preschool families to wait outside until the kindergarten students enter the building to allow for maximum visibility and supervision. In addition, the buses are continuing to refine their timing for both arrival and dismissal. We appreciate your patience as we work through this process.
We will begin our series of parent coffees on Friday, September 13th at 8:45 AM with a welcome to our new Assistant Principal, Debbie Bresnick. We hope you will come and join us for this informal gathering to learn more about her background and experience as she becomes part of the Green Meadow Community. We will continue this series of parent coffees throughout the year to address topics of interest as well as to discuss your thoughts and ideas to help our school continue to flourish.
The PTO is sponsoring the annual Back to School Picnic on Thursday, September 19th with a rain date of Friday, September 20th. We hope you will join us to share an enjoyable evening with families and celebrate the beginning of a new school year.
News From Mrs. Krasinski’s Kindergarten Class:
Mrs. Krasinski’s class is so excited to start their adventure in Kindergarten at Green Meadow. We are getting to know one another and becoming acclimated with the school. We are looking forward to learning our letters and sounds in the upcoming weeks. In math, we are about to start a unit on our numbers! We are about to start writing workshop and centers this week as well! It has been a great start to the new school year!
News From Mrs. Jones’ Grade 2 Class:
Welcome Back To School! We are very busy exploring the classroom, learning new routines and getting to know one another. We have been enjoying the classroom library and some great read aloud books. I look forward to an exciting year of learning! Each one of us has made a “Hope and Dream” for this year and we are eager to get busy! I wish you all a happy, healthy school year!
Ø If you pick your child up at the end of the school day, please be certain your child tells his/her teacher before leaving the area.
Ø Please do not bring dogs to dismissal. Many children are fearful of dogs which makes dismissal difficult for them.
Ø The Green Meadow PTO would like to invite the families of Green Meadow to a Back to School Picnic. Come join us on Thursday, September 19th on the Green Meadow Playground for a fun Kick-Off to the 2013/2014 school year. There will be music, crafts, light refreshment, and door prizes! This is a great opportunity to connect with other families and friends. So, bring a picnic dinner and a blanket down to the playground starting at 6:30 pm for a great time together.
