            We are looking forward to seeing all the parents of our students this evening at Back to School/ Curriculum Night.  The teachers will be sharing a detailed presentation of grade level curriculum standards as well as classroom routines and expectations. It is important to note that this informative evening is for parents only. An Open House which showcases student learning will be held for parents and children this spring.

            The schedule for this evening is as follows:

·        6:30-6:50       Welcome in the cafeteria for all parents

·        7:00-7:25       Classroom Presentations (Preschool, Kindergarten, Grade 1)                  

                                     Specialist Visits

                                     Book Fair for Parents of Grades 2 and 3 in the Library

              We are all eagerly anticipating the completion of the new high school this spring.  It offers exciting educational opportunities that all students will enjoy.  Some important transitions will occur this spring when the new Maynard High School is complete. In addition to the high school community relocating to the new building, the eighth grade is scheduled to move from Fowler to the High School and the third grade is scheduled to move from Green Meadow to Fowler.   Having just experienced packing and unpacking a school this summer to enable renovations to occur at Green Meadow School, we have an appreciation for the challenges that can occur during this process.   One suggestion under consideration is postponing the third grade transition for the 2013-2014 school year. As a result the current second grade would remain at Green Meadow for their third grade year. This would place the district focus on the opening of the new building as well as the transition of the eighth grade.

 As with any important decision, it is important to gather information and perspectives from all involved.  During Curriculum Night this evening, we will have a survey available in your child’s classroom for you to share your thoughts and opinions regarding this proposal.  Your feedback is very important to ensure that the best possible decision is reached.  Please take a few moments this evening to complete the survey and place it in the box located in front of the office.  Surveys will be sent home to parents who are unable to attend the presentation this evening to provide each family with an opportunity to share their thoughts.  Please send all completed surveys to school by Monday, September 24 to enable us to collect the data and share the information in a timely fashion.  We truly appreciate your participation.

News from Mrs. Hazel’s Physical Education Class

Green Meadow physical education is off to a fantastic start! Grades 2 and 3 are starting their soccer unit and 1st grade is working on the overhand throw.  Kindergarten is still learning relays and tag games. We are also starting our throwing skills. Mrs. Duddy’s Grade 3 Class

Mrs. Duddy’s class has had a busy start to the school year!  We have spent a lot of time discussing respect, responsibility and effective effort.  Students have created a set of guidelines which they feel will enable them to become kind, safe learners.  Getting to know our classmates has been fun!  The acrostic name poems paired with water color self portraits really brighten up our classroom.  Students are excited about, and continue to write about small moments during Writer’s Workshop.  The goal for the year is to catch 100 compliments.  As a team, we can achieve anything!

 

 

Special Notes:

  • During Back to School/ Curriculum Night please park in the school lots or in the Fowler School parking lot.  Please do not park on Tiger Drive or in the fire lanes in the front of the school.  We appreciate your assistance.
  • Please remember Back to School/Curriculum Night is a program for parents only.
  • Directory Forms are due on Friday, September 21st.  Please be sure to send them in if you would like to be included in the Green Meadow Family Directory.  If you need a form, please email Michelle Grace at mlgracey@verizon.net.
  • Picture Day is on October 4th - Parent Volunteers are needed to help with the management of the Green Meadow Picture Day from 8:30 am until 2:30 PM on Thursday, October 4th.  Please email Jennifer Ehlers at ehlersjennifer@yahoo.com if you are able to lend a hand and the hours you are available for that day.
  • The Enrichment Committee is a Sub Committee of the Green Meadow PTO.  Parent volunteers on the committee work with teachers and administration to evaluate and schedule quality enrichment programs and opportunities for our students.  We are in need of members for this committee for the 2012/2013 school year as well as a Chair.  Please contact Michelle Grace at mlgracey@verizon.net for more information or if you would like to be a part of this team. 
  • Kick Off PTO Meeting - The Green Meadow PTO will hold its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, October 9th in the Green Meadow cafeteria.  Please come join us to learn about our 2012/2013 Programs!
  • The Green Meadow PTO will be putting together a family directory.  Forms went home in your child's backpack last week.  Please return these forms to the school by Friday, September 21st.  If you do not have a form, please contact Michelle Grace at mlgracey@verizon.net.
  • Spirit Sale Order Forms are due on Friday, September 28th.  Please submit your order along with payment (checks made payable to GMPTO) to the school office.
  • School Pictures will be taken on Thursday, October 4. Additional information and order forms will be sent home on Thursday, September 27.
