Each year we look forward to our Back to School/Curriculum Night as it is the first opportunity we have to meet the parents of our students and share information about the curriculum expectations for the coming school year. This year the Green Meadow Back to School/Curriculum Night will be held on Thursday, September 20 from 6:30-8:00 P.M. This evening program is for parents of all students in preschool through grade three to visit their child’s classroom for special presentations in which each teacher will be highlighting and discussing grade level curriculum initiatives and classroom expectations.
The evening will begin with a welcome for all parents in the cafeteria followed by teacher presentations in their individual classrooms during which they will share an overview of the core curriculum as well as classroom instruction, procedures, and expectations. They will also discuss curriculum initiatives such as the Daily Five, Just Right Books, Writer’s Workshop, mathematical concepts and problem solving skills, as well as the many other essential learning experiences that occur during each school day.
Teachers will also share different ways parents can support their children in order to maximize his/her educational experience.
The specific schedule for the evening will be as follows:
· 6:30-6:50 Welcome in the cafeteria for all parents
· 7:00-7:25 Classroom Presentations (Preschool, Kindergarten, Grade 1)
Book Fair for Parents
Book Fair for Parents
During the evening we encourage parents to visit the specialists to develop a comprehensive understanding of the Green Meadow Art, Music, Physical Education, and Library Instructional Programs. Also please visit the fall book fair which will be held throughout the evening.
The focus of this evening is on classroom instruction and curriculum initiatives. In order to maintain student confidentiality, teachers will not be able to discuss individual students at this time. The fall Parent Conferences this year are scheduled on December 6 and 7. These conferences provide an opportunity for an in-depth discussion of your child’s academic progress and school experience. Please remember that communication is not limited to scheduled conference times. We truly value open communication with families and encourage ongoing dialogue. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher at any time by sending a note or email as well as leaving a message at the office for a discussion or meeting.
We hope you will find this evening to be an informative and enjoyable experience. We are excited to have you join us and look forward to the opportunity to discuss grade level curriculum and classroom instruction.
News from Mrs. Ginnity’s Kindergarten Class
Welcome to Mrs. Ginnity’s “Fish” kindergarten class. Our classroom is exploding with energy and learning! Over the past week, the children have been settling into their new routines. We have been focusing on creating an exciting, safe, learning environment, while we form friendships and learn to accept all of our unique differences. The children have created classroom rules and have been practicing being kind, safe, learners. This week we started earning “Warm and Fuzzies”, filling a jar with pom poms, as we notice kind acts within our classroom. We have also been reading books on celebrating our similarities and differences. The children have started participating in “The Daily Five” centers for reading, math centers and have begun Writers Workshop. They have enjoyed attending all their specials and meeting all their teachers. We are looking forward to a great school year!
News from Miss Bausmith’s Grade 2 Class:
Second graders are off to a fantastic start and are already hard at work! In math, we have been learning about different kinds of graphs such as tally and bar graphs. These graphs have been helping us get to know each other better.
In reading, we have been practicing the skill of predicting when listening to read alouds. We have also been learning new word study activities to help us practice our spelling.
Second graders are also working hard in writing workshop. Our writing folders are already filling up with wonderful new stories!
It is going to be a great year in second grade!
