September 4, 2014 Donna Dankner,
Our school year is off to a
wonderful start. Students have quickly settled into their new classrooms,
making friends and being engaged in learning. A special highlight of the
beginning of each school year is the arrival of our new kindergarten
students. The students are filled with
excitement and anticipation as their first days are spent touring the school,
experiencing the different aspects of the school day, as well as meeting the
staff and students. We are delighted to welcome the new kindergarten students
and their families as well as all other new students and families to our
The building of classroom communities that
build self esteem and support student learning is an important focus of the
beginning of each school year. As a
school we have embraced the Responsive Classroom Social Curriculum which
fosters positive and collaborative classroom communities. Built into our daily schedule is a morning
meeting time for each class to share ideas through conversation and discussion
which is a cornerstone of this program. Your
children may enjoy the opportunity to share these discussions with you and
continue the conversations at home.
wonderful way to participate in the Green Meadow Community is through the Annual
Back to School Picnic sponsored by the PTO.
Please bring your family dinner and picnic with us at the Green Meadow
playground. We truly appreciate the
support of the PTO as they sponsor this and other exciting family events.
On Wednesday, September 17 at 6:30
PM, you will have an opportunity to explore all the components of your child’s
school day during our Back to School/ Curriculum Night. During this parent only evening your child’s
teachers will share specific information about curriculum expectations and
instructional supports. They will also
provide information about classroom routines and schedules as well as ways in
which you can support your child at home.
The evening schedule also enables you to speak with specialists, special
educators, and literacy and math coaches to learn about the instruction and
they provide throughout the school year.
We hope you are able to join us for this informative evening.
Please remember to send a note to your child’s
teacher with any changes in dismissal plans.
Reminder: Supervision in the morning begins at

During the next few weeks we will begin
practicing some of our important safety procedures. In a positive and reassuring way, students

News from Mrs. McPhail’s Class:
Ahoy from Mrs. McPhail's 3rd grade cruising classroom!
So far we have begun learning our routines, schedule, and all about one
another. We created our Hopes and Dreams for this year, and then
brainstormed ideas for class rules to help us achieve these. Once our
extensive list was created, we realized that ALL ideas fell into one of three
categories: KIND, SAFE, LEARNERS...our Green Meadow Core Values! An
official contract was drawn up for our "Class Agreements", and we
have each signed it. We are looking forward to a year of smooth sailing
as we learn and grow together. Bon Voyage!
News from Mrs. Lawton’s Class:
Welcome back to Green Meadow! We have been learning all about one another,
learning classroom routines and making new friends in first grade. Our transition back to school has been very
positive and productive so far. We look
forward to continue leaning new things about one another. It has been fun
learning about what we have done over the summer. This upcoming month we will review literacy
and math skills and move into our first grade curriculum. We look forward to working with our new
friends and teachers.
Enjoy the rest of the summer weather while it lasts. Stay
cool! Take Care, Mrs. Lawton
