Green Meadow News
May 28, 2015 Donna Dankner, Principal
Last week our students were treated to a special preview of this year’s Third Grade Concert which will be held on Wednesday, June 3 at 6:30 PM. The third graders impressed all the other students and staff with their talents as musicians and singers. We are looking forward to seeing the entire performance next week.
The final two enrichment programs of this school year will provide special learning experiences for our second and third grade students. Today the Discovery Museum challenged the inquisitive natures and enhanced their knowledge of our second grade students with hands on programs connected to curriculum. The third grade students are eagerly anticipating a visit from Paul Revere to enhance their understanding of history. We truly appreciate the ongoing support of the PTO and enrichment committee for providing us with wonderful enrichment programs.
Last year we initiated a new transition with the establishment of Green Meadow Service and Reading Celebration Day. Students took such pride in supporting their school and their accomplishments as readers. T his year we will build on this very successful event with a full day of activities, celebration, and service on Friday, June 12. As a school we spend the service portion of the day combining our efforts to clean and enhance our learning environment. Each grade level has a specific task to perform that will have a positive impact on our school community. Following the service component of the day, we will celebrate the travels we took as readers, reading around the building with an afternoon of special activities. In addition, we will have a special cook out/ picnic lunch option for students. Students may purchase the cook out for lunch or bring their lunch which will be shared in a special outdoor picnic. Special thanks to all the staff members who have collaborated on the development of this special program and have provided the information in the flyer being sent home today to help your child prepare for the day’s events.
We are all looking forward to this special day! It promises to be a wonderful experience for all!
Mrs. Foss’ Class Happenings…
Lots of exciting things have been happening in our class! A few weeks ago, Erika Whitworth, our naturalist, came to work with us at the Vernal Pool. We saw many great creatures including frogs, cadisfly larva, water bugs, and even egg masses. The kids had a great time scooping the critters out of the pool and examining them under the microscopes.
Last week we wrapped up our Authors’ as Mentor unit, on Ezra Jack Keats, in writing. We had a publishing party to celebrate. The kids were so excited to share their writing and all the hard work they did. Last week in math, we also finished up our unit on money and have now moved into telling time. We have been enjoying the beautiful weather and look forward to wrapping things up for the end of the year!
• Due to the snow days this winter, our last day of school will be an early release on June 19. June 12 will now be a full day of school.
