We would like to invite you to join us for our final parent coffee of the school year, Navigating Transitions, on Friday, May 31 at 8:45. We will begin our conversation focusing on the many transitions that confront children and families as the school year draws to a close. Routines and schedules are changing as we embark upon another summer. Our students are moving on from their familiar classrooms, classmates, and routines while preparing for different summer schedules and new classroom community in the fall. In addition, some of our students are leaving the familiar environment of Green Meadow School as they transition to Fowler School. Each child responds to these changes differently which raises questions while providing us with many thoughts, experiences, and ideas to share. We will also have an opportunity for open discussion about topics of interest and respond to questions that may arise. We always appreciate the wonderful discussions and opportunities for sharing that occur during these informal coffees. We hope you are able to join us!
Preparations for the 2013-2014 kindergarten class are underway. Today we selected the second cohort of the Spanish Immersion Program. It is very exciting to see this program grow and flourish. The Spanish language proficiency our current students are developing is truly amazing. We are also enjoying meeting the new kindergarten students and their families during kindergarten screening. This first visit is filled with excitement and anticipation for our new students and their families. They have many exciting experiences ahead as members of the Green Meadow Community.
News From Mrs. Vasta’s PreSchool Class:
This week we have been learning about “Life on the Farm” and we will end our week with a field trip to Drumlin Farm. We have been learning about animal families and continue to discuss why farms are so important to us. Many of our activities this week have been revolving around a character named Mrs. Wishy-Washy, who just loves to wash things – including farm animals, from a series of books written by Joy Cowley. Not only are the Wishy-Washy books colorful and entertaining, but they help children begin to recognize patterns in reading and provide many opportunities to identify words that rhyme.
News from Mrs. Foss’s Class:
It’s hard to believe we only have 20 days left of school. Wow! How time flies. We have been very busy the last few weeks with lots of fun things happening in science. Last week we had Erika Whitworth come to take us out to the Vernal Pool. We were able to scoop critters out to examine and identify them. The kids were so excited about what they found. Yesterday we had the Discovery Museum visit us to teach us about Solids, Liquids, and Gases. Mrs. V, a scientist from the museum, showed the kids lots of neat experiments with liquid nitrogen and dry ice. As the year comes to a close we will be busy writing poetry, wrapping up our math unit on measurement, and reading more authentic and exciting literature.
