Our annual Green Meadow Open House will be held on Wednesday evening, April 16 from 6:30-7:30. As I visit classrooms, I am continually impressed by the learning that happens each day in the classes.  Our students are amazing writers, sharing their small moments, creating beautiful poetry, and writing realistic fiction that engages all readers.  They are reading and understanding a range of authentic literature with fluency and expression.  Through inquiry, exploration, and discussion, students are demonstrating an understanding of complex mathematical concepts. Your children are very excited to be able to share and celebrate all they have learned throughout the year with you.

The Open house schedule is as follows:

·        6:00-8:00         Visit the Book Fair located next to the library before the classroom visits begin.

·        6:30-7:30         Visit the classrooms, specialists, and support staff

·        7:30-8:00         The Book fair remains open

Parking is always a challenge during these special events.  Please keep the fire lanes clear and be aware of parking restrictions.  The Fowler parking lot is available for extra parking as needed.

With the goal of safety, we held a lock down drill on Wednesday under the guidance of the Maynard Police Department.   Students and teachers reacted swiftly, calmly, and followed procedures well during this exercise.  It is important for our students to have opportunities to learn and practice these procedures to be well prepared. Teachers discussed this process with the students to explain and answer questions.  In addition to this newsletter, we are sending a brief article which may be of interest to you about talking to children about lockdown drills .

We look forward to seeing everyone at the spring Open House on Wednesday, April 16 at 6:30.

Mrs. Adamson’s Class:

On Wednesday, March 26th, we met author, illustrator and musician, Jef Czejak.  He is an inspiration to us as we study authors as mentors.  The courtyard is a very busy place this spring. Eastern Bluebirds are building a nest in the birdhouse. Downy Woodpeckers are enjoying the suet feeder. See you at Open House on April 16th.

News from Mrs. Mazeika’s Class

We cannot believe it is already April!  In writers’ workshop, we are beginning a new unit called Author as Mentor.  The author we are studying is Mo Willems, who is famous for the Gerald, the elephant, and Piggie books, as well as pigeon stories.  We look forward to incorporating some of Mo’s interesting styles into our own stories!  In science, we are learning about our solar system.  We have learned about constellations and galaxies.  We are part of the Milky Way galaxy that got its name because it is a white, cloudy band across the sky that resembles milk.  In addition, we created our own constellations and named them.  We are glad spring has finally arrived and we look forward to many days filled with sunshine and warm temperatures!
