This week has been filled with excitement and anticipation as we approach the winter vacation.  We have enjoyed celebrations of learning such as publishing parties and poetry reading. We shared beautiful music as we enjoyed a special performance by the Fowler Band and will finish the week with a school wide sing along.

As we look to a new year we realize how fortunate we have been to participate in our students’ growth as learners and support their focus on core values as they continue to emerge as contributing members of the school community.  We look forward to the learning that is to come when we return after the winter break.  The new year also brings some new staff members to our school community.  Sangeetha Aj……. will join us in January as a special educator on the second grade team. Her extensive experience as a special educator makes her a valuable addition to our learning community. Also, Jen Roche recently joined us a paraprofessional, supporting students in the classroom setting. We welcome them the Green Meadow community.

During this holiday season, we look to share special moments with family and friends. We hope you enjoy the vacation and the time spent with the important people in your life.  We also would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy new year.  We look forward to seeing you when we return on January 6, 2014.

December News from Mrs. Mully’s First Grade

During the month of December, we read books about various holidays that are being celebrated at this time of the year.  We continue our study of plant and animal life cycles in science.  We are working on equations and missing addends in math and our present Writing Workshop unit is called “Authors as Mentors”.  It helps us use different writing styles when we read and discuss the work of other authors, e.g. books by Kevin Henkes.  We are working on a number of skills in language arts.  The more important ones are What does a story make me think of and identifying the main topic/retell key details of a text

Warm wishes to all Green Meadow Families for a happy and healthy 2014!  Mrs. Mully

News from Mrs. Lawton’s Class:

Happy Holidays!

This past month in first grade we have continued our unit on planting.  We have watched our amaryllis grow and we have begun to think and record growth like scientists.  We have also enjoyed learning about different holidays that are celebrated around the world.  We took an imaginary adventure on the Polar express and have incorporated our most magical part into our writing.  We are ending our school week before the holiday break with a pajama day!  We hope that everyone has a happy, safe and healthy holiday break!  Take Care, Mrs. Lawton
