This week we have focused on fire safety.  Grade levels have attended special presentations by the Maynard Fire Department that help educate and inform our students about the importance of fire safety.  We appreciate the opportunity to learn from our local fire department!

Providing students with high quality instruction in a nurturing and supportive environment is one of our primary goals.  A range of ongoing assessments help us determine which skills students have mastered as well as which skills are in need of additional instruction and support. Through differentiated instruction, we are able to target instruction to provide both support and extension to enable students to maximize their learning.

This year we are excited to be adding a new instructional resource, Go Math, to our math instruction.  Go Math offers varied instructional supports and enrichment options to help students develop their skills as mathematical thinkers and problem solvers.  There is also a rich technology component that includes interactive white board lessons.

We are very fortunate to have our skilled and knowledgeable math coach, Terri Morrison to work closely with staff and students in the development of mathematical skills and understandings. On Wednesday, November 5 at 6:30 PM, she will be offering a parent program focused on mathematical learning. We hope you are available to join us for this informative discussion.

On Wednesday, October 15 at 8:45 AM, we will be holding our first parent coffee of the school year.  Please join us for an open forum discuss any topics of interest as well as your child’s school experience.

News from Sra. Reyes’s First Grade Class:

Fall is finally here and to welcome it we are enjoying learning all about apples starting with a visit from Johnny Appleseed, to learning about its lifecycle.  It has been very interesting. Do you have a favorite apple?  Our classroom’s favorite is the Red Delicious.

We have also been busy with math.  We love our new program and have been working hard with word problems.  We have started writing our very own math stories.  Reading has been exciting too! We are practicing read to self and sharing our favorite books with our friends.

Staying healthy is important to us.  We had Mrs. Murray, an RN, visit our class and share some great tips on how to stay healthy.  Thank you so much!!  We loved it!!

Mrs. Duddy’s Grade 3 Class

We have had a busy start to the school year!  We have spent a lot of time discussing respect, responsibility and effective effort.  Students have created a set of guidelines which they feel will enable them to become kind, safe, learners.  Getting to know our classmates has been fun!  The acrostic name poems paired with water color self portraits really brighten up our classroom.  Students are excited about and continue to write about small moments during Writer’s Workshop.  We are learning about the Wampanoag Tribe and the Pilgrims in preparation for our field trip to Plymouth Plantation. The goal for the year is to catch 100 compliments.  As a team, we can achieve anything!
